Silk Bed Covers

Silk Bed Covers

When you spend a lot of money on beautiful silk bed covers, you surely don’t want them to get damaged when you are cleaning them.  So, how do you care for silk bed covers without jeopardizing them?  Here are some helpful tips:
1. Don’t use strong detergent: When you are washing your silk bed covers, keep in mind that they are a natural fabric with their own natural shine and softness.  You don’t want to use a strong detergent or it will break the fibers in your silk bed covers and will make them become hard and shrink.
2. Wash silk bed covers by hand: Yes, it’s a tedious job, but it will save your beautiful silk bed covers and your wallet.  Use water that is about room temperature with a very mild soap and then allow them to dry naturally on a clothesline that is out of direct sunlight.
3. Don’t use hot water: Hot water can also shrink the fibers in your silk bed covers, so always use lukewarm water or room temperature.  Normally about 86 degrees Fahrenheit is about perfect for washing your silk bed covers.
4. Don’t use bleach: This will only damage your silk bed covers and will make them hard and brittle.
5. Use a very low temperature iron: This will help bring out the softness and shine – but never use a hot iron.  Always use the lowest possible setting and never allow the iron to set on the silk for any length of time.
